About
I love exploring the different mediums of paints, inks & papers. It's a challenge to use many materials in a piece without 'muddying up the waters' yet create something cohesive in line, form, shape and color and simplicity.
One of my favorite parts of art-making is titling the piece. It usually comes to me after I have intuitively created a piece to match my mood. Whether my emotional state is calm, tearful, exuberant, or whimsical I love to put a quirky title to something abstract and let the viewer use their imagination.
I have always felt the pull toward art making. As a child I was constantly doodling on my school binder when bored in my class seat. I wasn’t encouraged to make art but everyone in my family is artistic so I guess it’s in my genes. Being the youngest I felt I shouldn’t compete with my older brother, sister nor my parents so I chose a different career path but my artistic creativity has poured out in everything I have done: cooking, home decor, gardening and even in my holistic healing practice as a doctor of chiropractic. I can happily now say that I am a full-time artist after retiring in 2021 and moving to Sacramento from my native San Francisco.
I have taken numerous art classes and workshops since 1998. Even though I began as a painter I immersed myself in the world of collage and encaustics for many years.
Because I had to dissolve my encaustic art studio in 2021 I went back to painting and began incorporating paper materials within my compositions. I now consider myself a mixed-media artist.
I have shown at City Art and Collage Galleries in San Francisco and have been involved in many group shows in Northern California for the past 15 years. Many of my paintings and encaustics are in private collections throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Colorado and New Mexico.
